I still have a DOS copy of Works 2 on my computer (why it is there, I don't
know - it will be gone soon). Anyway, I tried it an indeed it does not work
on my new computer with AGP Diamond V550 board. Text display is all
scrambled.

A few pieces of software expect to talk directly to VGA hardware, not only
not using a driver, but even bypassing the BIOS functionality provided by
the
ROMs on the video card. It's possible that WOrks is one of these, and that
the AGP cards you've tried don't invest a hole lot of effort in supporting
such access to the hardware.
