I'm in general agreement with what Ilya and Aaron had to say. I
suspect that the "metabolic type" aspect of the theory is
probably rubbish. I am more optimistic that he may be on to
something with the lectins, but his research is only scratching
the surface.
For example, even though oranges are paleo, there appear to be
some people who have problems with them. They are off-limits for
type As, according to D'Adamo; it would be interesting to find
out if the people who have the problems are likely to be type A.
And then there are the controversial peanuts. According to
D'Adamo these have lectins that are actually beneficial for type
As, but harmful for type Os.
What D'Adamo doesn't have, however, is empirical evidence linking
lectins with specific health problems for specific blood types.
He has lots of references about lectins, but these are for the
most part not about blood type. He has lots of references about
how diseases prefer certain blood types, but this research does
not look at lectins. What is needed is research that puts the
two together.
