I've never seen the gadget but do make jerky out of chilli-ground beef.
We just grab a nice lean roast from the meat counter and give it to the
butcher. Knowing what we intend to do with it, he removes the price tag,
trims any visible fat, puts it thru the grinder set to coarse (chilli
grind), re-wraps and sticks the price tag back on and away we go.
We mix the chilli ground beef with olive oil, red dry wine, celery seeds,
garlic and onion powder/salt, let sit in the frige for a few hours then
form into the old large dollar size rounds about a 1/4 inch thick and then
dehydrate.
(I guess we ought not really to use the home made wine, but an old drunken
E. Coli has never caused a problem <g>.)
