Hi,
        My winmodem shows up as a PCI Serial Contoller until I install its drivers.
Find the drivers for the winmodem and install those.

  Installed Win98 at friend's, after the install
done window pops out : new hardware found, called
"PCI Serial Controller". The drivers are not present
anywhere - looked at C:\, at W98 CD-ROM, at disks
supplied with computer - no luck. Probably as
the result of this thing missing, PCI modem disappeared
from anywhere and doesn't respond even to AT.
