Use the Windows policy editor if you are using Windows 95 or Windows 98.  If you
are using NT there is a utility on the resource kit Floplock.exe (or something
similiar)

With the policy editor you can lock down just about everything and you are not
removing the device, just the icon to it.

You then have the ability as an administrator to log-in and change it as needed.

Or as another option you could try one of the lock-down utilities such as
Fortres or Cooler.

Does anyone have a good idea how to disable the A:\ drive
temporarily, to prevent students using diskettes?

If I disable the drive in the Bios, My Computer tries to find it and is
unhappy. I can disable it in Device Manager, but anyone can
activate it. Can I password protect the Device Manager?
I don't want to open the case each time and disconnect it.
