Some Mice are only PS/2 or Serial, I know, I've been through the headache
of trying to find a PS/2 mouse with only adapters and serial mice.

While there is very likely a risk, I doubt very much it is "high". I have
unplugged MANY keyboards and mice without ill effect, maybe I was just
lucky, but... TTYL
