From Yugoslavia, it is hard to get a feel for the problem here in the
US. The problem is, that very few Leftists in the US- WANT to build
an Antiwar Movement. The US Left doesn't take Internationalism very
seriously.

There are some exceptions. WWP/ IAC and SOA Watch being the most
notable. They try to build organizational structure to confront US
militarism.

The Nation, or ZNet, try to build organizational structure for
themselves, only. Stopping the US military is not the central focus
of their work. One could say that they see their central issue being
to provide a forum for publishing the views of various academic
intellectuals (some whom are very good, like Hermann).
So they will go away at it, analyzing up a storm, but will do little
else.

These problems didn't start with The Balkans; have nothing to do with
Milosevic; and continue on, into other international and national
issues. For example, it is glaringly obvious, that the US is in the
process of beginning a bloody escalation of war, into the Northern part
of South America. There is absolutely no US organizing going on,
to impede this development.

I myself live in a city of 1,500,000 people, that has 6+ military
bases. One base has poisoned the entire neighborhood around it.
Military choppers fly overhead constantly. Yet there is no
organizing going on, against the military here. This is not unusual
for a city in the US.

The US Left has largely just decided to ignore the entire issue of
militarism and creating a real fight against it. They want to talk
about other issues, instead. Stopping their own government's
militarism, doesn't get any particular priority.

It's great that you are struggling against Milosevic inside Yugoslavia.
But all the concentration on Milosevic in the US Left circles, is a
diversion of sorts. It is not what needs so much talking about,
here in The Heart of the Beast.

These Lefties need to be talking about the need for building Peace
Demonstrations. But they have their mouths shut. They had their
mouths shut before the US messed up Yugoslavia. And they still have
their mouths shut up afterwards. They've decided that the population
is just not interested in the issue.

But then again, the US Left has made little effort to organize around
the "Peace" issue, for almost 3 decades.

Best wishes, Andrej.

Sincerely...............Tony Abdo
