From what I read about HGs on the Lewis and Clark trail, most seemed to
prefer to cook or roast the meat. Only if absolutely starving did they seem
to dive into raw meat!
Of course, in addition, they ate lots of meat raw and jerked, also raw fish
dried and stored, but also lots of fish cooked as well. cooking seemed to be
the preference. Sometimes jerked meat was boiled. Salmon heads were roasted
on a stick and considered a great delicacy.
L & C and HGs ate lots of dogs, the expedition considered dogs a very, very
tasty treat.
