Hi, Todd. Thanks for your response to my post; I have been enjoying
your input into the PF list for several months.

Yes. I purchased lean cuts of range-fed beef that was raised w/out
antibiotics/hormones etc. after reading Protein Power, thinking that I
could tolerate some red meat without a big LDL increase. My LDL
averaged about 175 for years; after including red meat (mostly beef,
some lamb) in my diet for a few months my LDL jumped 40 points. I know
cholesterol varies and the numbers aren't in concrete, but it was a
definite trend.
After reading Neanderthin I tried red meat for a few weeks, but
chickened out and went back to sort of a Dr. D'adamo diet that allowed
chicken, turkey, cornish game hen, etc. Yuk! That said, I've broken
down and agreed to accept some meat from a deer that a friend killed
last week; how could I pass it up?
My service dog and my cat are very paleo and eat a diet including raw
beef several times a week ...wish I could do the same. The dog is ten
years old and looks about five, she hasn't even begun to turn white. A
paleo diet has been a tremendous help to my animals. Now I just wish I
could join them.
Todd, thanks for your advice re. the dietitian's column in the newspaper
. I appreciate your ref. and will try to see that both the author and
the newspaper are informed. There sure is a lot of misinformation out
there!
Take care,
Kathryn in Michigan
(where the county I live in has more car-deer accidents than anywhere in
the U.S.; lots of people "get their deer" by hitting rather than
shooting them)
