My 10 year old son was dx'd with Celiac disease in June 1997. At that time he
was profoundly anemic, with a hemglobin of 3.9 (normal being approx 12-14). We
have no way of knowing how long he was anemic, as he was carrying on as if
nothing was wrong. He never had any other symptoms of Celiac.
In March 1998, he was dx'd with dilated cardiomyopathy, and we were told that
it was unrelated to the Celiac disease. I feel that the anemia caused his
heart to enlarge, and that caused the cardiomyopathy. We have no history of
cardiomyopathy in our family, and to the best of my knowledge,my son has not
had a virus that could have caused it.
My question is this: Is there anyone else out there who has both Celiac and
cardiomyopathy? I can't believe they're not related in my son's case. Thank
you!

Sincerely,

Mary
