I had a biopsy done both ways. The first was 12 years ago and I was
completely awake. It took 4 1/2 hrs for the tube to reach the area to be
biopsied. They had to take xrays often to see when it reached the right
spot. The doctor was coming and going. The last time he came in he said he
was just talking to another doctor and they are now sedated people for this
procedure. He said if we don't get it we will sedate you next time. As I
was gagging I said "GET IT NOW".

I had a repeat biopsy done a year later. I was sedated and had no problem
what so ever.
