A related question:
I usually turn off my power to computer, speaker, external drive and
monitor with a surge protector when I know I won't use my system for a
while or for the day. I first shut down the computer and then turn
everything off with the switch on the surge protector. I'm wondering about
a couple of things:
1) Everytime I turn the power back on with the surge protector, should I
wait half a minute or so before I turn on my computer.
2) Will this practice damage my monitor, speakers, or any other peripheral
devices since it's on right away from nothing to ON?
I am guessing that there is difference when you have power connected to
your device and turn it on with the switch on the deivce than no power
connected and connect to power while turning it on the same time.
Everytime, I turn it on or off from surge protector, I hear noise from
monitor and speaker. I cannot tell if the noise is different or not. I'm
afraid that I may damage my equipment.

Thanks,

Changhsu Liu
