Thanks for the response Eric.
Actually the cable modem and hub both sit on top of the Gateway cabinet and
are connected together with 3 foot cables. The only cable that runs through
cabinets is the one connected to the laptop, which is working ok.

This could be a "dumb" question but did he, at any time, staple or use
cabling
staple to re-route the wiring? This sounds like a physical problem with
that
particular patch cable.
