Just to add to the discussion and confirm Dave Gillett's comment.
I have a couple of the newer Cheetahs, ST 39103LW. They get warm to the
touch, but I would not describe it as hot.
Each one sits in it's own drive bay with a drive cooler.
Conversly, I have an older 9 GB 7200 Baracuda drive that is hotter to the
touch than these new Cheetah's

Could we consider normal or proper, tha a HDD UW SCSI CHEETAH ST39102LW,
gets so hat when working that it almost burns the tip of yor finger when you
touch its case?
We were testing one of then in a pc without cover and in a room at about 23
