Ken why can't you use a (56k winmodem) in a 486 pc? I have a Gateway 486
pci 66mhz
and I put in the Intel 83mhz over-drive chip. I then added a US Robotics
56k winmodem
I can connect at speeds of about 36000 some times. I am wondering if this
is why I cant connect any faster then that? all input welcomed!

That is nonsense. As long as you buy an internal modem(to be sure you have
a fast uart which is then on the modem card) and it is not a winmodem a 56K
modem will work fine. I have one in use on a 486 and it connects at 44-46 k
without any problem.
