I am in the process of refurbishing a couple of old computers that were
previously used in a network running Netware.
I ran FDISK under DOS and removed all the Non-Dos partitions and then
reformatted the drives with FORMAT.
For some reason, when I reinstall DOS back on the drives, I can't get them
to boot to DOS after the install. I go back to FDISK to check the
partitions and they all come up as "Non-Dos" again.
What I am wondering is....... Does Netware format drives in such a way as
to make it difficult to undo?
I have read somewhere about the difference between a normal format and a
"low level" format. Does FORMAT under DOS do a "low level" format? Should
I be using some other utility to format the drives more thoroughly to get
rid of any left over "Non-Dos" drive information?
Also.........does a format of a drive (low level or normal) reformat the
boot sector totally? What I am asking is, can I get rid of a virus by
reformating a drive?
Thanks..........
Doug...........
