Thanks for all of your replies. Based on them, and advice from others I
know, I went ahead and bought an IDE HP-CD-Writer 8250i and installed as a
Slave to my CD-ROM and all transfers from the hard drives as well as
burning one data CD have gone without a hitch. (I treat it gently, just to
be paranoid!) So far I'm very pleased with the results and the Adaptec
software is quite easy to use.
