I just finished reading Stefanson's book and I think the Inuit women led
relatively quiet lives during the long winter, without a lot of exercise.
Of course, they lived in a sauna type environment inside their houses -
stripped to the waist - with temps near 100 degrees F. toward the ceiling
and becoming lower toward the floor. They drank huge quantities of water
during the day and sweat just streammed off them. The men continued to go
out and fish daily in temps of up (down) to -50 degrees F. although they
were well insulated in Caribou clothing.
During the summer everyone did some SERIOUS walking from place to place and
only supplies and young children were on sleds.
I think the lifestyle must have had something to do with their muscular
development as well as being lo-carb.
