Greetings, listoids!
I used to have *terrible* restless leg problems, back in my pre-enlightened
pre-paleo days. I remember one incident, on a very long flight (to
Australia) where I thought I might lose my mind. I eventually found out that
I get restless legs when I eat things that I'm sensitive to, which is
virtually all grains, and any corn solids or starch. (I can get away with
corn sweeteners and oil, though I now avoid them also, whenever possible).
Before I knew my personal restless-leg triggers though, the only thing I
found that would stop the restless legs was a stiff shot of bourbon (or 2).
(It's a muscle relaxant, you know. Can also stop asthma attacks, and is
something of an anti-inflammatory, but that's all grist for a different
post). Of course, back in my pre-enlightened days, all I knew was that I
was having asthma attacks, costochondritis, joint pains, excema, restless
legs, etc., while following all the good rules of a SAD diet, and getting no
help from doctors who implied, as often as not, that I was a hypochondriac.
So, in those days, *anything* that worked was welcome, alcohol or not!
These days (thank G-d), I don't have those symptoms (except when I backslide
or accidentally eat something that I thought was safe, but wasn't (meatballs
with bread crumbs, anyone?). And of course, these days, I avoid all
grain-based alcohols too.
Happy Independence Day, Gang!
