The discrepancy between DNA and physical remains also holds for dogs and wolves. From DNA evidence, it would
seem that dog DNA existed for about 10 times as long ago as the oldest physical remains of reconizable dogs.

I believe that this shows us something about the process of neoteny and how neotinized traits become dominante
within a species only when enviromental conditions change to provide a strong advantage for such traits.

This "Neanderthal neoteny or how dogs domesticated mankind" theory is discussed in the upcoming expanded
edition of "NeanderThin".
