I finished Stefansson's book called CANCER DISEASE OF CIVILIZATION and in
the last chapter he talks about the Hunzas of Northern India. Now mind you
all the rest of the book is about Arctic tribes such as Eskimos and their
total lack of cancer on an all meat/fish/fat diet.

But the last chapter seems to switch tack. The Hunzas up to 1956 he says had
no cancer either on an ovo vegetarian diet. ( In later years they added more
processed foods to their diet as the population grew, and then disease came.)

But prior to that, they had no cancer on a diet of GRAINS, vegetables, eggs,
and dairy such as goat yogurt.

He also states that a culture with no cancer is free of other degenerative
diseases.

Now I'm really confused.

Almost the entire book seems to imply that all meat/fat/fish is the most
healthy, then at the end it's like a bait and switch. Sort of like, "heck
you can have your dairy and grains anyway"

What do you guys make of this?

The Hunza diet also appears to be relatively high carb. He states that the
Hunza ate lots of fruit both fresh and dried.

Isn't low carb healthier? Or were the Hunzas getting so much exercise that
the high carbs did not affect their health?

Every ten days or so, the Hunza ate a small amount of roasted mutton. Other
than that, they ate no meat......

Common to both cultures, Eskimo and Hunza, was:

l. Three years of breast feeding
2. No processed foods of any kind (unless you would call goat yogurt processed)

ps This is one of the most fascinating books I have ever read as it goes
also into discussions of how futile the billions spent on "cancer research"
are as the author states we already know how to PREVENT cancer-----that is,
stone age diet.

he also mentioned that the Hunza ate lots of sprouts. Should we be eating
sprouts? He also advocated lots of live foods and fermented foods. How could
we add fermented foods to our diet? The Hunza drank liberally of a fermented
drink that had lots of bacteria in it. It also implies that yogurt is
healthy as it has good bacteria. So, should I be giving my son goat yogurt?
I sure as heck can't get rid of candida on paleo diet (mostly meat/fat) no
matter how hard I work. I have to use antifungals such as grapefruit seed
extract just to keep him from acting drunk (from candida toxins)

recall he was not breast fed, I myself had breast cancer.......

Oh finally you guys both stone age cultures had almost no cooking. The
Eskimo ate raw meat/fish /fat and the Hunza ate 80% uncooked. (only a small
amount of roast mutton) Kind of an ad for raw??

He also implies that what really prevents cancer is not the meat/fat but
rather the antiscorbutic properties of both diets...so should we be eating a
lot more lemon? I'm wondering if the Hunza research means I can give my son
more carbs?? So far he has more clarity on lower carbs. One way I keep him
low carb is not only meats/fats but also pork rinds.Wouldn't these be
proscribed on a stone age diet...they are fried.....Stone age cultures he
talks about in the book would not have eaten pork rinds. They ate their
meat raw or very lightly cooked. So what low carb substitute could I find
for that. I feel I can only give him so much venison with olive oil as I
worry he would be getting too much protein per meal.
