Continuing to breastfeed beyond 1 year can help a lot. It means that you
can give other foods, but can introduce them slowly and carefully and get a
sense of whether they're a problem for your child. And the more tolerable
foods that you add, the less demand for breast milk there will be.
There is a down-side to prolonged breast-feeding. Ultimately, you'll have
to find some kind of tolerable formula to replace the breast milk. The
longer you wait, the more accustomed to the child will be to the flavor,
and the more foreign the formula will taste. If you can find a tolerable
formula sometime within the second year, then you might be able to start
the slow shift to it.
