Here's what i don't understand isn't a winmodem called a
winmodem just because it only can be used in windows sounds
strange to me that a PCI modem can't be used in DOS just as
well (apart from the fact that you like a PCI modem or don't
like a PCI modem). PCI modems are not jumperable as far as i
know.

Personally I cannot stand winmodems either. Like most have
suggested, shy
away from PCI modems, though I think that 3Com/USR makes one
hardware based
PCI modem, model 2977. Otherwise one other quick tip which
will also help
but by no means is definite is to ask if it is jumperable.
