Trolling for what?

Not to split hairs but, for the sake of future arguments, deer are not open
grassland grazers. They eat leaves and small tender plants in the forest.
Bark is more of a desperation measure, when icy stuff coats the lower
vegetation. They have a different ecological niche than cattle, horses,
etc., which we tamed. They hang out in the shadows during the day (at
least in Belmont, California, where we used to share our yards with them)
and move out to browse and find water at twilight.
