An ordinary fluorescent lamp (also the modern small low-energy bulbs)
are even worse than a computer screen. Also staying close to the cord
to an lamp or other electrical device i probably riskier. And never
sleep with a transformer close to Your head (one of which is usually
in a clock radio).
There is a risk with everything, You will always have to weigh it
against what You get. There is a tendency to not be afraid of dangers
that we are used to, like eating grains or riding a car, and fear the
new or unusual things like microwaving and flying.
