"While I played with Legos and Lincoln logs (invented by Frank Lloyd

began with the two classic stories of the 1940s by Virginia Lee Burton --
Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel and The Little House. I still get a bit
of a "gulp" feeling when I read them to my kids. If you're not familiar
with them check 'em out...if just for the artwork of the Little House
"smiling" after being moved and restored "as good as new" by descendants of
     the original builder."

I read both of these books MANY years ago, but didn't realize their
preservation connection until I started reading to my daughter.

You do sort of wonder whether they had some sort of influence on the old
     subconscious.
