That's the first, and perhaps the only solution outside of perpetual
maintenance.  The crestings will have to be redetailed and remounted
(water goes over the front as well as down the back and out again),
and then water run-off doesn't just fall straight down, but blows
against the building, including the projecting base below.

Stains...could just be one of those character giving elements we hold so dear.
