Larry, I loved the whole thing. (grin).
Another point to consider.
The hard drive heads actually ride on a
cushion of air.  Turning the power on and
off VERY quickly can cause turbulence,
making the heads bounce slightly and
could cause a head to strike the "platter".
I know people that did not develop bad
clusters on new drives anymore by using
a little "restraint" with that power switch.
