John,
Is the power cable hard wired (permanently connected) to the monitor? If
not, then swap the cable with one for the PC and see if the problem moves
with the cable. If the problem follows the cable, you can get a
replacement cable (one size fits all) for around $10US. Otherwise.....
The inside of a monitor case is very similar to a television. There are
residual electrical voltages (even hours after turning it off) that can
pick you up and toss you across the room --- or worse.
I suggest you call a couple TV repair shops and explain your problem.
More than likely you will find one that will fix the loose connection
fairly cheaply. If not, then now may be the perfect time to upgrade to a
bigger monitor. <grin>
