I did the same thing.  I now use Atkins when I want to loose a little weight,
and a Evolutionary Fitness approach (Paleo) for normal times.

It is better to focus on the 'be active a lot' aspect that on the
'be carefull how much you eat' aspect.

I find the hardest this is finding time to be active and not
get 'terminal illness' (sitting in front of a computer terminal all day)   :-)

Most of my exercise seems to get done between 9:30 and 10:00 at night
after the kids are setteled down in bed.  Not the ideal time, but one
must be active when one can.
