There is an excellent work on the subject by Chellis Glendinning called
"My name is Chellis and I'm in recovery from Western Civilization". In it
she explores the psychological, emotional, social and spiritual
consequences of our having moved away from a hunter/gatherer lifestyle
where we lived "as part of" the environment to an agricultural/industrial
lifestyle where we live "apart from" the environment.

The book was put out by Shambhala Press in 1994. It is available along with
many other wonderful books on similar subjects from Creatura Books, they do
mail order and can be found on-line at:

I believe, and I've seen it time and again in my work, that it is just as
important to heal the mind and emotions and rekindle the spirit as it is to
give the body wholesome foods.
