MADISON YOUTH ENTERPRISE ACADEMY
FREE two-week Financial Literacy Day Camp for Madison-area 9th and 10th Grade Students, held on the campus of Edgewood College.
June 17-21, 2002, 8:30 to noon; June 24-28, 2002, 8:30 to noon; July 1-2, 2002, 8:30 to noon

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN
* Personal finance basics: saving, budgeting and how to use credit cards.
* Tips on applying to college and financial aid.
* Basic principles of investing in stocks.
* How our market economy works.
WHAT ELSE YOU’LL GET OUT OF THE PROGRAM
* Students who complete the full course will receive a U.S. Savings Bond.
* There will be a full-day field trip to Chicago. Students will visit the Chicago Board of Trade, the Federal Reserve Board, and other attractions.
* An investment club will be formed with up to $10,000.
Selected program graduates will form an investment club and invest real money. Profits will be used to pay club members’college expenses.
WHY APPLY TO THE YOUTH ENTERPRISE ACADEMY?
The Youth Enterprise Academy will provide you with the skills you need to be successful in high school and beyond. The academy will focus on the steps you can take to become an economic success. This 12-day summer program will introduce you to how our free-market economy works and your roles within it. Talented and knowledgeable teachers will explain how the economic choices you make today can influence your chances for future success.

Admission to the Youth Enterprise Academy is limited and competitive. Apply now! You must currently be a 9th or 10th grade student in a Madison area school.
Registration Information
Essay: Write one or two paragraphs stating why you would like to participate in the Youth Enterprise Academy, and attach it to the application form. Explain why you’re interested in being successful in your school and your community, and how you’ll benefit from attendance. Mention any special interests you may have in business or the economy. Neatness and
spelling count! References: Please provide the name and telephone number of two people who can serve as references.
