I wouldn't sweat the note telling you to confine your discussion to private
email to much. It has been my experience, that certain rather up-tight
members of this list consider any person discussing a topic which they are
not interested in, or they already know the answer to (off topic). I like
to think of them as thought police. As you, I have seen some postings
clearly off topic made to this list on political views, and personal
economic agendas etc. At least your questions had to do with computers. I
myself have no interest in PDA file conversions, but that is why they
invented the subject line, so I can skip messages which do not interest me.
Flaming is a particularly rude development that impatient computer users
use. I wonder why the fact that this is an electronic communication medium
makes it alright to be rude and unpleasant. Probably, because one can hide
behind that impersonal keyboard, and doesn't have to take responsibility
for poor behavior.
Happy Martin Luther King day. Oops, I'm sorry, that's off topic isn't it.
(just being silly forgive me!)
