HI,

The above named drive has started emitting a constant medium pitched sound.
I think the sound has always been there but it seems to becoming more
noticeable. I know it's this particular drive because I unhooked it and
rebooted and the sound is gone.

I ran the disk diagnostic from Western Digital and I get a code of 0000
which means the drive has no errors.

Specs:
Win95
40 mgs ram
32 x Panasonic CD-Rom
Soundblaster Awe 64
5.1 Western Digital Caviar Hard Drive

I have other components which have been hooked up but are unhooked right
now just to make sure it wasn't one of them:
10.1 Western Digital Hard Drive
Syquest Syjet

Question: Could a bad cable cause the drive to emit this sound? Any
other ideas? I do have a backup of this drive from yesterday.
