Hi,
This is Bronwyn - the one with the Cheese cravings (among others I see).
I have always avoided the recipes posted for "mock cheese sauce" & the
like, I guess I just assumed they were a totally different sauce from
cheese. So I made the one posted last week. YUMMY! I made it with less
water & tumeric as instructed and my body really thought it was eating
cheese. I piled it on top of some broccoli & cauliflower. It totally
satisfied my cravings. It made a whole bunch & I saved the leftover
sauce (which was pretty thick - like nacho sauce) and made grilled
cheese the next day. So I am instructing everyone on this list with a
casein allergy to try this sauce if you haven't yet. It's sooo good.
By the way, to buy nutritional yeast, just go to the health food store &
tell them you need yeast for flavouring, not for making bread. It is a
common ingredient & they will know exactly what you are looking for. The
stuff they gave me was called brewers yeast, & it did the trick.

- To whomever was yeast intolerant -
When I was on a really restrictive diet about 6 months ago, I used
vitamin c crystals in place of things like vinegar & yeast. Maybe you
could make the cheese sauce, then add vitamin c crystals after it has
finished cooking. This might give it the necessary bite.

Cheers,
Bronwyn
