Hi everyone-
HELP! I've stumped my doctors and I'm hoping someone can offer me ideas
or thoughts about what might be going on with me. I will try to be as
concise as possible.
I was diagnosed through blood tests about 2 years ago. My symptoms had
been weight loss, anemia, aching bones and leg cramps, constipation.
After starting the GF diet, these symptoms dissapeared with the
exception of the weight loss. Last year I had a bunch of blood work
done to make sure I was heatlthy before going on a big trip to nepal.
Everyting was totally normal and healthy, including the antibodies
(which made sense seeing as I had been GF)- I felt fine, but was still
about 100 lbs.
Recently we decided I should have an endoscopy because I was really
having a hard time putting on weight. I had blood work, a fecal fat
test, and the bopsy. The Dr. was looking for anything- not Celiac
specifically so I DIDN'T do a challenge. Well, the results showed damage
to the villi- consistent with Sprue. I was relieved that they found
something, but distressed that I was obviously not strict enough with
the diet. Well, just to confuse things, I just got back the blood work
back and it is normal. No antibodies at all.
This makes no sense to me or to my doctor- the presence of antibodies
is what causes the damage-
what could be going on that would cause villi damage or inablity to
heal???
Any thoughts at all would be so welcome and apreciated. I feel like Ive
taken a giant leap backwards and am beginning to get nervous that I
might be ignoring a serious problem- though noone has deteced it.
Thank you in advance!!!
