HEALTH HAZARD ALERT --ENER-G BRAND GLUTEN-FREE POTATO
LOAF MAY CONTAIN DANGEROUS BACTERIA
OTTAWA, February 26, 1999 --The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning
the public not to consume ENER-G brand Gluten-Free Potato Loaf bearing lot
number 101499 and sold in the 660g package. The loaf, which was imported
from the United States, bears the UPC 0 75119 14572 0. It is possible that
the product contains the bacteria responsible for Botulism in humans.
Botulism is a life-threatening illness caused by the build-up of toxins
produced by Clostridium botulinum bacteria.
The importer is recalling the affected lot from the marketplace. The product
has only been distributed in the province of Quebec.
Food contaminated with C. botulinum bacteria may not look or smell spoiled.
If consumers have any remaining product they should return it to the point
of purchase. The product should not be consumed by humans or animals.
