I know this is an old message, but I didn't see a response to it, so I
thought I'd chip in. There's no secret formula for this, it's simply
straight multiplication. The given numbers refer to "# of cylinders X #
of heads X # of sectors," and the drive capacity can be determined by
multiplying the result of all of that by 512, the # of bytes per sector.

If you have a BIOS that doesn't deal well with the numbers you'd like to
give it, you can usually get by with using other numbers that result in
the same (or less) total capacity. Current systems have pretty much made
this a non-issue, but there are still plenty of systems out there like
yours.
