It might be either a lost signal from the computer (possible
caused by a broken cable, loose connection, bad video card,
etc.), or your monitor might have gone into power save
mode. I have a 17" Pixie (don't laugh) monitor on my new
computer, and when the power save kicks in, the screen
blanks, the CRT makes a clicking noise, and the power light
changes from green to orange, flashes a few times, and then
stays steadily orange. When the signal is lost, the light
changes orange and keeps flashing. From what I've seen,
both these behaviors are becoming standard.
