If you did not remove the HD(s) from the onboard controller when you installed
the i/o ctlr, the system might not be able to distinguish between which is
being used and which is not. This is because IRQ 14 is assigned to the
primary ide channel, and IRQ 15 is assigned to the secondary. Thus, you
cannot have more than 4 ide devices at a time(2 on each channel). So if what
you initially attempted was to place an IDE device on the i/o ctlr and another
on the onboard ctlr, it may have caused an irq conflict at the system level,
which means: LOCK-UP
You asked for a suggestion: I'd suggest you disconnect any IDE devices from
the onboard controller if you haven't done so yet, and place them on the i/o
card, OR vice versa, remove any ide devices from the i/o and place them on the
onboard ctlr. Don't mix and match with one controller onboard and another on
the i/o. From my experience, it's not possible to use more than 2 ide
channels. I've heard rumors of an I/O card that allows up to 7 ide devices,
but haven't seen such a thing yet. If you still want more storage devices, go
scsi.
Hope this helps.

Best Regards,
Delano Lalla.

system doesn't recognise that this is a secondary controller.
Unfortunately the documentation of the card doesn't state anything about
configuration as a secondary controller. Has anybody a suggestion to me? >>
