Hi all,

on the recent brain-building and eating discussion,
w-3 fats, and where to search them in the food have been discussed frequently
("eat brain or purslane").
I must say that I'm not much of a fatty-acid specialist.
Consuming much of plant oils I wasn't too concerned about that up to now.

Could someone well-informed - Todd that seems to be a homeplay for you-
please help a little here for clearness?

I know, that polyunsaturated fats are essential ("vitamin f").
You mentioned w-3 fats that must come from food (animal brains, sardines)
or can be built from a plant-based predecessor.
That sounds like vitamin-character too.

To be able to look after that:
What are the fat
ty-acid's names in the USDA-Database ("ALA" ...)?
They ought to be in human milk, if of importance for the growing brain,
isn't it?

I got for mothers milk:

Lipids
 Fatty acids, saturated g 2.009
 10:0 g 0.063
 12:0 g 0.256
 14:0 g 0.321
 16:0 g 0.919
 18:0 g 0.293

 Fatty acids, monounsaturated g 1.658
 16:1 g 0.129
 18:1 g 1.475
 20:1 g 0.040

 Fatty acids, polyunsaturated g 0.497
 18:2 g 0.374
 18:3 g 0.052
 20:4 g 0.026
 Cholesterol mg 13.900

Which one is it, the w-3 source??

Any references on a RDA on one of these?
Woul you recommend any net-available references on the importance of these?

Thanks in advance
for any informations on the topic

regards

Amadeus
