I live in an apartment building, and receive TV using "rabbit ears". I
noticed a similar problem with one channel. The grey band was the
"black" band between frames of an interfering television signal. It
scrolled slowly down (could have been up) due to a slight difference in
frame rates between the two stations.
After the "main" station shut down, the interfering signal became clear
enough to read - including the telephone number of the cable TV company,
as they were running a promotion. I telephoned them, leaving a message
explaining the problem. They never called back - but the problem went
away within 48 hours.
I suspect that you are receiving an interfering signal with almost the
same frame rate. Could it be a similar system nearby? Or a TV broadcast?
