OK, I fianally broke down and bought a new 56K modem.
The brand is "Desk Link Advantage" and it has a Lucent chip
on it.
Of course the next thing I'm gonna say is "HELP!"
Even using tha AT commands and the "S" registers to
limit the modem speed to 33600, I'm still having problems
connecting. The PnP went OK; installed as COM5/IRQ15
the first time (couldn't use the TERMINAL program) so I
removed the COM3 and reinstalled the 56K modem. It located
itself at COM3/IRQ4 without a hitch this time.
I can't get my internet dialer program to make a complete
connection and using TERMINAL to manually login I can
enter my user id and password but the ?garbage? comes up
on the screen before I get the chance to enter "PPP" which is
in my script for the normal login.
This is with both V90 and 56flex turned on and off. With V90
and flex turned on I can hear the extra tones for the higher
connection rates (I got as high as 49333 once) and I can
also hear the normal tones for negotiation with the V90 and
flex turned off (from listening to my 33600 modem).
I'm making a connection and loging in but I can't complete
the login.
Anyone esle gone through this and can help out the rest of us???

PS: my system is a 486DX4-100, 20M RAM, WIN98
the modem is DeskLink Advantage by ActionTec 16-bit ISA
-----
Right now I'd be happy just to get 33600 bps again.
BTW my other 33600 died in the lightning storm we had this
past Sunday.

TIA

Winston
