In the July issue of PCWorld there is a review of CD-R and CD-RW devices
(see: http://www.pcworld.com/current_issue/article/0,1212,3925,00.html ).
The review states that the Smart & Friendly CD-RW 226 Plus unit that was
reviewed includes Adaptec's Easy CD Creator "Deluxe". The "Deluxe" version
includes a utility called Spin Doctor for creating music CD's off of
records, tapes, or any other audio source. The cool part is that it has
filtering tools to edit out pops, scratches, and hisses. If you have this
software just connect your stereo to your soundcard, and use the software.
Sorry that I can't give you any more detail, because I haven't tried it yet.
I intend to though, when my new PII 350 comes in about a month or so ;)
