An unusual number of AOL subscribers are producing large quantities of
error message because AOL is bouncing all their email.
They look something like this:
----- The following addresses had permanent fatal errors -----
<[log in to unmask]>
----- Transcript of session follows -----
... while talking to air10.mail.aol.com.:
>>> RCPT To:<[log in to unmask]>
<<< 552 xyz mailbox full
554 <[log in to unmask]>... Service unavailable

The following is my method for handling all error messages:
Hi, because of bouncing email, your ISP is probably not delivering
all the messages that are posted to the list.
Addresses not on DIGEST will be set to DIGEST mode to help reduce
the number of error messages generated by your ISP.
Addresses on DIGEST will have to be deleted if the LIST is still
unable to deliver messages and errors are being generated.
Changing modes, resubscribing and checking for missed messages in
the ARCHIVES can be done by following the LIST's Guidelines or
from my Web Page.
