They are more likely to eat a carbohydrate-based diet, which in and of
itself causes health problems.  They avoid meat, but they don't necessarily
avoid processed foods.

Yes, good point.  When you think of it, in general, vegetarians would as a
group be the kind of people more interested in health than the average
person, and therefore less likely to be big sugar eaters, coffee and
alcohol drinkers, smokers, and probably more likely to get at least
moderate exercize.  Naturally their statistics are skewed.
