10/03/2000 22:15 GMT+1 -- 6,500 workers are on strike
Kostolac is still on strike
Approximately 6,500 workers of the "Kostolac power plant", "Kostolac pit
mine" and PRIM have continued their strike today for economic reasons and
because of the annulment of the electoral people's will. Production has
completely stopped in the pits of "Cirikovac", "Klenovik" and "Drmno".
At the "Drmno" pit, which usually employs 3,000 workers, only seven could be
found who have not joined the protest. The machines are stopped, and the
mine doesn't even have security. Only one of the four blocks of the
"Kostolac power plant" is operational, while the rest are out due to regular
repairs or the strike. The leadership of both companies has tried to hand
the employees work orders, but they refused to accept them. Only certain
administrative services are working at the Kostolac company.
The accessed to the power facilities have been blocked from many sides and
the blockade and strike will continue tomorrow, it has been announced.
