Jana responded to last week's post about the Gloria Loring (daytime soap
star) website and Ms. Loring's recent article about a young mother's
struggle to get the appropriate attention from physicians to diagnose her two
young daughter's with diabetes. I responded:
>Jana: Thanks so much for the note. Your daughter had such a rough time,
>incredible to me. I was naive enough to think that such incidents were a
>thing of the past. My own brother was diagnosed with IDDM about 1960 and we
>almost lost him because of delays....
>
>I guess there is still a wake up call needed in the medical community about
>childhood diabetes. That being the case, I guess we should not be so
>surprised that Celiac disease still confuses and mystifies the medical
>community. I hope your daughter is doing much, much better now....
>
>I do hope you will share your story with >Gloria Loring via the e-mail
>address I posted...(www.glorialoring.com) Thanks,

>Hi Sara We had many troubles with getting daughter's diabetes confirmed as
>she almost died before we finally figured it out and got her to hospital
>where she stayed over a week to recover from shut down. This was
>after seeing a doctor 3 times that same week complaining about her
>problems.... Then this past year we finally got a new specialist and we
>begged her to figure why our daughter was always having belly pains for the
>past 5 years.. Well she tested and then had biosphy done very fast and it
>proved our daughter had celiac disease too. We are grateful for online sites
>as we received faster information and connected to parents who were dealing
>with both medical problems and this made life much easier for us. I do enjoy
>getting all the info and thank you for your imput this week.

>You may share this letter if it will help others more aware of the
>problems of getting children checked as soon as possible. My child ,now 9,
>has been diabetic 6 years and recently discovered to have celiac last Oct,
>1998. She is doing well and is very good at explaining both problems and
>educating other peole , including teachers and peers.I am more than willing
>to share what I have learned and am hear to listen if anyone wants to email
>me.
