Is this WD Ultra 66? If it is, perhaps the Ultra 66 is enabled on the drive and
you don't have support for it on the motherboard. You'll need to download a
utilty from WD that checks this and disables it if it's enabled.With Win98 SMP
won't do a thing for you, you'll have to run NT.
I don't know the details, but if they built the system for you and it's been
having problems since you got it, I would take it back to these guys and demand
the thing run right. They may be giving you a great deal but if in fact they
delivered a unit that is not working properly, they either did not test the
system or don't know how to configure the thing properly. I would not spend
more money with them.
