I upgraded a 486 dx-33, installing 32 MB RAM, an enhanced IDE disk
controller card, & a new 8.4 GB Ultra DMA harddrive. The OS is Linux
RedHat 5.2. The motherboard is 16-bit ISA & has a 256 kb cache
enabled in the BIOS.

The system is running well but seems slow, & I wondered if there are
some BIOS changes I could make, or perhaps I should not use that
Ultra DMA drive; I'm not certain the Promise enhanced card supports
it.

Would disabling the cache memory controller, internal cache memory,
or fast gate A20 option in the BIOS speed up keyboard command pro-
cesses? Programs seem slow to load, but I may just be used to PII
speeds.

Any comments would be appreciated, or direction to any resources.
Thanks!
